Ideon Andron

Idaion Andron Cave is located at an altitude of 1,500 meters, dominating the plateau of Nida. According to mythology, the mother of the newborn Zeus hid him in Idaion Andron, so that he would not be discovered and swallowed by his father Cronus, as he had done with his other children. The goat Amalthea had taken care of Zeus while the Kourites with their pyrrhic dance hid the baby’s cry. It is one of the most important caves in Crete, with numerous finds proving its importance from the Minoan Era. More info can be found here.
